Wine
Moving from the valley to the hills we notice the characteristic elements of this territory: vineyards and olive groves that produce wine and oil of excellent quality.
The cultivation of the wine on the gentle slopes of the suggestive hills dates back to far-off times.
Wines grow vigorous in rows from the slopes of Parish Saint Stephen to Lucca, from Saint Gennaro to Montecarlo, on the hills of Porcari and Altopascio. This is the DOC area of the hills of Lucca and Montecarlo: the grounds are formed by the debris of the Appennino and are rich in clay and silica mixed with gravels from the Apuane Alps, thus being perfect for growing vines and for the production of wines of high quality. The temperate climate, the exposure to the sun and the presence of summits that shelter the vineyards against the northern cold contribute to the development of a strong production characterized by a high level of sugars and richness of flavours.
In the territory of Capannori, the best production of wine is in the fractions of Matraia, Valgiano, Segromigno in Monte, Gragnano, Tofori, San Gennaro and Petrognano.
